भीष्मस्य भीमसेन-निरोधः

Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify

इस प्रकार श्रीमहाभारत भीष्मपर्वके अन्तर्गत भीष्मवधपर्वमें चौथे दिनका युद्धविरामविषयक चौसठवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ,ऋषयो देवगन्धर्वा यक्षराक्षसपन्नगा: । पिशाचा मानुषाश्वैव मृगपक्षिसरीसूपा:

ṛṣayo devagandharvā yakṣarākṣasapannagāḥ | piśācā mānuṣāś caiva mṛgapakṣisarīsṛpāḥ ||

Sañjaya meneruskan dengan menyebut betapa luasnya golongan makhluk yang hadir dan turut terkesan oleh peristiwa itu: para resi, para Gandharva—pemuzik ilahi, Yakṣa dan Rākṣasa, makhluk bersifat ular seperti Nāga, Piśāca, serta manusia—di samping binatang, burung, dan segala yang melata. Rangkap ini menegaskan bahawa goncangan perang tidak terbatas pada raja dan pahlawan semata-mata; ia bergaung ke seluruh tertib moral dan kosmik, menarik perhatian semua jenis makhluk, dan mengingatkan akan akibat sejagat daripada adharma dan keganasan.
