Counter-deployment of Divisions and the Opening Tumult

The verse sets the moral stage rather than giving a doctrine: at the very center of conflict, the warrior must be guided by higher discernment. Kṛṣṇa’s address signals that right action (dharma) in war requires clarity, restraint, and principled counsel, not mere impulse.
Sañjaya narrates that Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana) speaks to Arjuna, who is standing amid the assembled forces. It is a transition into Kṛṣṇa’s instruction, highlighting Arjuna’s readiness and the immediacy of the battlefield context.
