भीष्मसेनासंनिवेशः — Bhīṣma’s Mobilization, Omens, and the Kaurava Array

स्यन्दनैर्वरवर्माणो भीष्मस्यासन्‌ पुरोगमा: । श्रुतायुध, चित्रसेन, पुरुमित्र, विविंशति, शल्य, भूरिश्रवा तथा महारथी विकर्ण--ये सात महाधनुर्धर वीर रथोंपर आरूढ़ हो सुन्दर कवच धारण किये द्रोणपुत्र अश्वत्थामाको अपने आगे रखकर भीष्मके आगे-आगे चल रहे थे

sañjaya uvāca | syandanair varavarmāṇo bhīṣmasyāsan purogamāḥ | śrutāyudhaś citrasenaḥ purumitraḥ viviṁśatiḥ śalyaḥ bhūriśravā tathā mahārathī vikarṇaḥ—ete sapta mahādhanurdharā vīrā rathoparī ārūḍhāḥ sundara-kavaca-dhāriṇaḥ droṇaputram aśvatthāmānam ātmanaḥ purataḥ kṛtvā bhīṣmasya purastāt purastāc ceruḥ ||

Sañjaya berkata: Di hadapan Bhīṣma bergerak satu barisan hadapan para pahlawan kereta perang, bersalut zirah yang indah. Śrutāyudha, Citraseṇa, Purumitra, Vivimśati, Śalya, Bhūriśravas, dan maharathi Vikarna—tujuh pemanah perkasa ini, menaiki kereta masing-masing dan mengenakan baju zirah yang halus, mara mendahului Bhīṣma, sambil meletakkan Aśvatthāman, putera Droṇa, di hadapan mereka ketika bergerak. Adegan ini menegaskan susunan kuasa dan perlindungan yang disengajakan dalam perang: wibawa yang tua dihormati, sementara para pejuang yang dahsyat ditempatkan untuk melindungi dan memancarkan kekuatan.
