sa śete śaratālpastho medinīm aspṛśaṃs tadā | bhīṣmasya rathato bhūmau patite sarvabhūteṣu bhayaṅkaraḥ hāhākāro 'bhavat ||
Sañjaya berkata: Pada ketika itu Bhīṣma terbaring di atas hamparan anak panah, tanpa menyentuh bumi. Apabila Bhīṣma terjatuh dari keretanya ke tanah, bangkitlah ratapan ngeri di kalangan semua makhluk. Peristiwa itu menegaskan betapa dahsyatnya harga perang, dan betapa luar biasanya ketabahan Bhīṣma yang terikat sumpah—hidupnya dipertahankan di tengah derita oleh tekad teguh dan dharma.
संजय उवाच
