Measurements and Description of Śākadvīpa
चन्द्रादित्यौ महाराज संक्षेपो5यमुदाह्नत: । इत्येतत् ते महाराज पृच्छत: शास्त्रचक्षुषा
candradityau mahārāja saṅkṣepo ’yam udāhṛtaḥ | ity etat te mahārāja pṛcchataḥ śāstracakṣuṣā ||
Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai Raja Agung, demikianlah telah aku nyatakan secara ringkas hal tentang Bulan dan Matahari. Itulah yang telah aku jelaskan kepadamu, wahai raja besar, sebagai jawapan atas pertanyaanmu—pertanyaan yang diajukan dengan mata kebijaksanaan śāstra.”
संजय उवाच
The verse emphasizes disciplined inquiry and authoritative explanation: a king should ask with “śāstra-cakṣuṣā” (learned, principled discernment), and the responder should present the essence clearly and concisely—linking ethical governance with informed understanding of cosmic order.
Sañjaya concludes a brief exposition about the Moon and the Sun, telling Dhṛtarāṣṭra that he has answered the king’s question in summary form, framing the exchange as a respectful, knowledge-based dialogue.
