कुरुभि: सहित भीष्म युध्यमानं परंतप । अर्जुनं च सपाज्चाल्यं संशयो विजये5भवत्,शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले नरेश! एक ओरसे कौरवोंसहित भीष्म युद्ध कर रहे थे और दूसरी ओरसे पांचालदेशीय वीरोंके सहित अर्जुन उनका सामना कर रहे थे, यह देखकर सबके मनमें संशय हो गया कि किस पक्षकी विजय होगी
sañjaya uvāca | kurubhiḥ sahitaḥ bhīṣmaḥ yudhyamānaṃ parantapa | arjunaṃ ca sapāñcālyaṃ saṃśayo vijaye 'bhavat ||
Sanjaya berkata: Wahai pembakar musuh, ketika Bhishma, disokong kaum Kuru, bertempur di satu pihak, dan Arjuna bersama para wira Pāñcāla menentangnya di pihak yang lain, timbullah keraguan dalam hati semua orang tentang pihak manakah yang akan meraih kemenangan.
