Uttanka’s Guru-Śuśrūṣā and the Commission to Retrieve the Maṇikuṇḍalas (उत्तङ्क-गुरुशुश्रूषा तथा मणिकुण्डल-आदेशः)
चाण्डालरूपी भगवान् सुमहांस्ते व्यतिक्रम: । यत् तु शक््यं मया कर्तु भूय एव तवेप्सितम्,“आपने चाण्डालरूपधारी भगवान् इन्द्रको ठुकराया है, यह आपका महान् अपराध है। अच्छा, आपकी इच्छा पूर्ण करनेके लिये मैं पुन: जो कुछ कर सकता हूँ, करूँगा
cāṇḍālarūpī bhagavān sumahāṁs te vyatikramaḥ | yat tu śakyaṁ mayā kartuṁ bhūya eva tavepsitam ||
Uttaṅka berkata: “Indra, Tuhan Yang Mulia, telah menyamar sebagai seorang Caṇḍāla; menolak baginda adalah suatu pelanggaran yang amat berat bagimu. Namun, demi menunaikan kehendakmu, aku akan sekali lagi melakukan apa sahaja yang termampu.”
उत्तडुक उवाच
Do not judge worth by outward appearance or social markers; a grave ethical lapse occurs when one rejects a worthy being (even a deity) based on form. Dharma requires discernment, restraint, and readiness to correct one’s mistake through renewed right effort.
Uttanka points out that Indra appeared in the guise of a Caṇḍāla and that rejecting him was a serious offense. He then reassures the other party that he will attempt once more to do whatever he can to accomplish the desired aim.
