माण्डव्यशापाद्धि स वै धर्मो विदुरतां गत: । महाबुद्धिर्महायोगी महात्मा सुमहामना:,“माण्डव्य मुनिके शापसे धर्म ही विदुररूपमें अवतीर्ण हुए थे। वे परम बुद्धिमान, महान्‌ योगी, महात्मा और महामनस्वी थे

māṇḍavyaśāpād dhi sa vai dharmo viduratāṃ gataḥ | mahābuddhir mahāyogī mahātmā sumahāmanāḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Kerana sumpahan resi Māṇḍavya, Dharma sendiri telah memasuki keadaan sebagai Vidura. Dalam wujud itu, beliau amat cerdas, seorang yogi agung, berjiwa besar, dan berhati setinggi-tingginya.”
