Chatra–Upānah Dāna: Origin Narrative

Jamadagni–Reṇukā–Sūrya Saṃvāda

शक्र उवाच अध्वर्यवे दुहितरं ददातु छन्‍्दोगे वा चरितब्रह्मचर्ये । अथर्वणं वेदमधीत्य वि्र: स्‍्नायीत य: पुष्करमाददाति,इन्द्र बोले--ब्रह्मय)! जो आपका कमल ले गया हो, वह ब्रह्मचर्य व्रतको पूर्ण करके आये हुए यजुर्वेदी अथवा सामवेदी विद्वानको कन्यादान दे। अथवा वह ब्राह्मण अथर्ववेदका अध्ययन पूरा करके शीघ्र ही स्नातक बन जाय

śakra uvāca | adhvaryave duhitaraṃ dadātu chāndoge vā carita-brahmacarye | atharvaṇaṃ vedam adhītya vīraḥ snāyīta yaḥ puṣkaram ādadāti ||

Śakra berkata: “Biarlah orang yang mengambil teratai itu mengahwinkan anak perempuannya dengan seorang Adhvaryu yang berilmu (pendeta Yajurveda), atau dengan seorang Chāndoga (pelantun Sāmaveda) yang telah menyempurnakan disiplin brahmacarya. Atau, setelah menamatkan pengajian Atharvaveda, biarlah orang itu—wahai pahlawan—segera menjadi seorang snātaka (lulusan yang telah menyempurnakan nazar pelajar).”
