Śrāddha-utpatti and Nivāpa–Agni Precedence (श्राद्धोत्पत्तिः—निवापेऽग्निपूर्वकत्वम्)
आधिपत्य॑ व्रजेन्मर्त्यो ज्येष्ठायामपवर्जयन् । नर: कुरुकुलश्रेष्ठ ऋद्धो दमपुर:सर:,कुरुकुलश्रेष्ठ)! ज्येष्ठा नक्षत्रमें इन्द्रियसंयमपूर्वक पिण्डदान करनेवाला मनुष्य समृद्धिशाली होता है और प्रभुत्व प्राप्त करता है
ādhipatyaṁ vrajen martyo jyeṣṭhāyām apavarjayan | naraḥ kurukulaśreṣṭha ṛddho damapuraḥsaraḥ ||
Bhishma bersabda: Wahai yang terbaik daripada keturunan Kuru, seorang insan yang pada nakṣatra Jyeṣṭhā mempersembahkan piṇḍa setelah mengekang pancaindera terlebih dahulu, akan mencapai kemakmuran dan memperoleh kekuasaan sebagai tuan pemerintah.
भीष्म उवाच
That sense-restraint (dama) should precede ritual action; when ancestral offerings are performed with disciplined conduct, they become a dharmic cause of prosperity and the capacity to hold authority responsibly.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma, including the fruits of śrāddha-related observances. Here he states that performing piṇḍa-offerings at the time of the nakṣatra Jyeṣṭhā, with prior control of the senses, leads to prosperity and lordship.
