Pānīya-dāna and Anna-dāna: The Primacy of Life-Sustaining Gifts (पानीयदान-प्रशंसा / अन्नदान-प्रशंसा)

नारद उवाच अन्नमेव प्रशंसन्ति देवा ऋषिगणास्तथा । लोकततन्त्र हि संज्ञाश्न सर्वमन्ने प्रतेष्ठितम्‌,नारदजीने कहा--देवता और ऋषि अन्नकी ही प्रशंसा करते हैं, अन्नसे ही लोकयात्राका निर्वाह होता है। उसीसे बुद्धिको स्फूर्ति प्राप्त होती है तथा उस अन्नमें ही सब कुछ प्रतिष्ठित है

nārada uvāca | annam eva praśaṃsanti devā ṛṣigaṇās tathā | lokatantraṃ hi saṃjñāś ca sarvam anne pratiṣṭhitam ||

Nārada berkata: “Para dewa dan para resi memuji makanan semata-mata. Kerana tertib dan kelangsungan hidup di dunia bergantung pada makanan; daripadanya lahir kesedaran dan kejernihan budi, dan sesungguhnya segala sesuatu di dunia ini berasaskan makanan.”
