तात! यदि ब्राह्मण क्षत्रियोंके द्वारा सम्मानित न हों तथा क्षत्रियमें सदा रहनेवाले निष्ठर कर्मको देखकर ब्राह्मण भी उनका परित्याग कर दें तो वे क्षत्रिय वेद, यज्ञ, उत्तम लोक और आजीविकासे भी भ्रष्ट हो जायेँ। उस दशामें ब्राह्मणोंका आश्रय लेनेवाले तुम्हारे सिवा उन दूसरे क्षत्रियोंक जीवित रहनेका क्या प्रयोजन है? ।। अन्न ते वर्तयिष्यामि यथा धर्म सनातनम्‌ | राजन्यो ब्राह्मणान्‌ राजन्‌ पुरा परिचचार ह

tāta! yadi brāhmaṇāḥ kṣatriyaiḥ na satkṛtāḥ syuḥ, tathā kṣatriye sadā vartamānaṃ niṣṭhuraṃ karma dṛṣṭvā brāhmaṇā api tān parityajeyuḥ, tadā te kṣatriyā vedāt, yajñāt, uttamalokāt, ājīvikāyāś ca bhraṣṭāḥ syuḥ. tasmin daśāyāṃ brāhmaṇānām āśrayaṃ gṛhṇatāṃ tvām ṛte teṣāṃ anyeṣāṃ kṣatriyāṇāṃ jīvitena kiṃ prayojanam? annaṃ te vartayiṣyāmi yathā dharmaḥ sanātanaḥ | rājanyo brāhmaṇān rājann purā paricacāra ha ||

Bhīṣma berkata: “Wahai anak, jika para brāhmaṇa tidak dihormati oleh kṣatriya, dan jika para brāhmaṇa—melihat kekerasan perbuatan yang sentiasa ada pada kṣatriya—turut meninggalkan mereka, maka para kṣatriya itu akan tersisih daripada Veda, daripada yajña, daripada alam yang tertinggi, bahkan daripada sumber kehidupan mereka sendiri. Dalam keadaan demikian, apakah guna hidup kṣatriya yang lain—selain engkau—yang berlindung pada brāhmaṇa? Aku akan memeliharamu dengan rezeki menurut Dharma yang abadi; kerana pada zaman purba, wahai raja, kṣatriya dahulu berkhidmat kepada brāhmaṇa.”
