दैव–पुरुषकार-प्रश्नः

Daiva–Puruṣakāra Inquiry: Fate and Human Effort

पुरा ययातिर्वि भ्रष्टक्ष्यावित: पतित: क्षितौ । पुनरारोपित: स्वर्ग दौहित्रै: पुण्यकर्मभि:,पूर्वकालमें राजा ययाति पुण्य क्षीण होनेपर स्वर्गसे च्युत होकर पृथ्वीपर गिर पड़े थे; परंतु उनके पुण्यकर्मा दौह्ित्रोंने उन्हें पुन: स्वर्गलोकमें पहुँचा दिया

purā yayātir vi-bhraṣṭa-kṣayāvitaḥ patitaḥ kṣitau | punar āropitaḥ svargaṁ dauhitraiḥ puṇya-karmabhiḥ ||

Bhishma berkata: “Pada zaman dahulu, Raja Yayāti, apabila kebajikannya telah habis, jatuh dari syurga dan terhempas ke bumi. Kemudian, melalui amalan benar para cucunya, baginda diangkat semula dan dipulihkan ke syurga—menunjukkan bahawa kebajikan yang terkumpul boleh susut, dan pahala keturunan yang berbakti boleh menjadi sokongan yang meneguhkan.”
