Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: Abhaya, Anugraha, and the Ethics of Honoring the Worthy

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights niḥśaṅkatā—acting without wavering when one has accepted a righteous duty—along with humility and readiness to serve. The king’s steady compliance becomes a measure of character and earns the sage’s approval.

Sage Chyavana recounts that after being pleased with the king’s earlier conduct, he mounted his chariot and instructed the king to come with his wife and pull the chariot. The king carried out even this demanding request without hesitation, further pleasing the sage.
