Bhīṣma berkata: “Di wilayah raja Kāśī, seorang pemburu keluar dari kampung dengan membawa anak panah yang disapu racun, lalu memulakan perburuan—mencari seekor rusa.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse sets up an ethical exemplum: harmful intention and harmful means (a poisoned arrow used for hunting) are presented as the seed of later suffering and moral consequence. It frames a discussion on dharma by showing how choices made in ordinary contexts can carry grave ethical weight.
Bhīṣma begins a story situated in the realm of the king of Kāśī. A hunter leaves the village carrying a poison-coated arrow and goes into the wild to hunt a deer, initiating the chain of events that the subsequent verses will unfold.
