अनुकूलामनुवंशां क्रात्रा दत्तामुपाग्निकाम् । परिक्रम्य यथान्यायं भार्या विन्देद् द्विजोत्तम:,“जो अनुकूल हो, अपने वंशके अनुरूप हो, अपने पिता-माता या भाईके द्वारा दी गयी हो और प्रज्वलित अग्निके समीप बैठी हो, ऐसी पत्नीको श्रेष्ठ द्विज अग्निकी परिक्रमा करके शास्त्रविधिके अनुसार ग्रहण करे
anukūlām anuvaṁśāṁ ca bhrātrā dattām upāgnikām | parikramya yathānyāyaṁ bhāryāṁ vinded dvijottamaḥ ||
Bhishma berkata: Seorang yang terbaik dalam kalangan dvija hendaklah menerima sebagai isteri seorang wanita yang berkenan budi, sesuai dengan keturunannya, diserahkan dengan sah oleh saudara lelakinya, dan duduk dekat api suci yang menyala; setelah mengelilingi api menurut aturan yang wajar, hendaklah dia mengambilnya menurut ketetapan śāstra.
