अफड-्#-रात अष्ट षष्ट्यांधेिकशततमोब& ध्याय: भीष्मजीका प्राणत्याग, धृतराष्ट्र आदिके द्वारा उनका दाह- संस्कार, कौरवोंका गंगाके जलसे भीष्मको जलांजलि देना, गंगाजीका प्रकट होकर पुत्रके लिये शोक करना और श्रीकृष्णका उन्हें समझाना वैशम्पायन उवाच एवमुक्त्वा कुरून्‌ सर्वान्‌ भीष्म: शान्तनवस्तदा । तृष्णीं बभूव कौरव्य: स मुहूर्तमरिंदम,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--शत्रुदमन जनमेजय! समस्त कौरवोंसे ऐसा कहकर कुरुश्रेष्ठ शान्तनुनन्दन भीष्मजी दो घड़ीतक चुपचाप पड़े रहे

Vaiśampāyana uvāca: evam uktvā kurūn sarvān bhīṣmaḥ śāntanavas tadā | tṛṣṇīṁ babhūva kauravyaḥ sa muhūrtam arindama ||

Vaiśampāyana berkata: Setelah menasihati semua kaum Kuru demikian, Bhīṣma putera Śantanu pun terdiam. Wahai penunduk musuh, sang Kaurava itu berbaring senyap seketika—diamnya menandai beratnya wasiat terakhir dan kesyahduan saat perpisahan yang kian mendekat.
