Educational Q&A

The verse establishes the authority of the teaching by grounding it in truth (yādhātathyena), antiquity (purātanam), and an unbroken lineage of transmission—from Vyasa, presenting Parashara’s divine doctrine, previously taught even to Indra—thereby urging the listener to treat it as reliable dharmic instruction.

Bhishma introduces and authenticates an ancient sacred account: he identifies it as Vyasa’s truthful narration, centered on Parashara’s divine view, and notes that it was taught in earlier times to Śakra (Indra), signaling its venerable pedigree before proceeding with the instruction.
