Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

शक्रस्य तु वच: श्रुत्वा नाहं प्रीतमनाभवम्‌ । अब्रुवंश्व तदा हृष्टो देवराजमिदं वच:

śakrasya tu vacaḥ śrutvā nāhaṃ prītamanābhavam | abruvaṃś ca tadā hṛṣṭo devarājam idaṃ vacaḥ ||

Mendengar kata-kata Śakra (Indra), hatiku tidak menjadi gembira. Namun, dengan menzahirkan kegirangan pada lahirnya, ketika itu aku berkata kepada raja para dewa dengan kata-kata ini. Petikan ini menegaskan pendirian batin yang berdisiplin: seseorang boleh mengekalkan kesantunan di hadapan kuasa, namun tetap tidak terikat di dalam, serta waspada secara etika tentang apa yang patut diminta atau diterima.
