पितरश्न न तुष्यन्ति सह देवैर्विशेषत: । प्रायक्षित्तं तु यत् तत्र ब्रुवतस्तन्निबोध मे
pitaras na tuṣyanti saha devair viśeṣataḥ | prāyaścittaṁ tu yat tatra bruvatas tan nibodha me ||

धौग्य उवाच
That certain actions or contexts fail to please the ancestors (and even the gods), and therefore one should follow the appropriate prāyaścitta—ritual and ethical expiation—to restore purity and right order (dharma).
Dhaumya is instructing his listener(s) that the Pitṛs are not satisfied in a particular kind of situation being discussed, and he transitions into prescribing the relevant expiatory procedure, asking them to listen carefully.
