त्रयाणामपि पिण्डानां श्रुत्वा भगवतो गतिम्‌

trayāṇām api piṇḍānāṃ śrutvā bhagavato gatim | śrāddhasya rahasyaṃ jñātaṃ; devadūta! tvayā yat śrāddhavidher nirṇayaḥ pṛṣṭaḥ, tadanusāreṇa trayāṇām api piṇḍānāṃ gatiḥ kathyate | sāvadhānaḥ śṛṇu me ||

Setelah mendengar daripada Dewa Viṣṇu tentang haluan yang ditakdirkan bagi tiga persembahan piṇḍa, dia pun memahami rahsia batin upacara śrāddha. “Wahai utusan para dewa,” demikian dikatakan, “kerana engkau meminta penentuan yang jelas tentang tatacara śrāddha, maka kini akan diterangkan akibat bagi ketiga-tiga piṇḍa itu. Dengarlah daripadaku dengan sepenuh perhatian.”
