Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity

Educational Q&A

The passage underscores karmic recompense: sustained righteous conduct and merit can lead to exalted posthumous states, symbolized by residence in Indra’s heaven and the privilege of witnessing the divine king’s celestial pastimes.

Bhishma is describing a heavenly reward: the deserving person gains a celestial vimana with heavenly maidens, lives in Indraloka near the eastern ocean’s shore, and continually watches Indra’s divine sports.
