आचारप्रशंसा

Praise of Ācāra as the Basis of Longevity, Fame, and Prosperity

दिनमें कभी मैथुन न करे। कुमारी कन्या और कुलटाके साथ कभी समागम न करे। अपनी पत्नी भी जबतक ऋतुस्नाता न हो तबतक उसके साथ समागम न करे। इससे मनुष्यको बड़ी आयु प्राप्त होती है ।।

divā kadācid maithunaṁ na kuryāt | kumārī-kanyayā saha ca kulaṭayā saha ca kadācid api samāgamaṁ na kuryāt | svāṁ bhāryām api yāvat ṛtu-snātaṁ na bhavati tāvat tayā saha samāgamaṁ na kuryāt | etena manuṣyo dīrgham āyur avāpnoti || sve sve tīrthe samācamya kārye samupakalpite | triḥ pītvāpo dviḥ pramṛjya kṛta-śauco bhaven naraḥ ||

Bhīṣma bersabda: Jangan bersetubuh pada waktu siang. Jangan sekali-kali bersetubuh dengan gadis yang belum bersuami, dan jangan dengan wanita yang hidupnya liar. Bahkan dengan isteri sendiri pun, jangan mendekatinya sehingga dia mandi setelah bermulanya haidnya. Dengan pengekangan demikian, seseorang memperoleh umur yang panjang. Lagi pula, apabila suatu kewajipan telah tiba, setelah melakukan ācamana di tempat air yang sewajarnya, hendaklah meneguk air tiga kali dan mengelap bibir dua kali; dengan itu seorang lelaki menjadi suci menurut tatacara untuk melaksanakan tugas tersebut.
