उपदेशदोषप्रसङ्गः (Upadeśa-doṣa-prasaṅgaḥ) — The Risk of Misapplied Counsel
द्विजश्रेष्ठ! ब्रह्मन! इसी कारणसे मैं आपकी ओर देखकर हँसता हूँ। आपका अनादर करनेके लिये मैं आपकी हँसी नहीं उड़ाता हूँ; क्योंकि आप मेरे गुरु हैं ।। विपर्ययेण मे मन्युस्तेन संतप्यते मन: । जातिं स्मराम्यहं तुभ्यमतस्त्वां प्रहसामि वै,यह जो उलट-फेर हुआ है, इससे मुझको बड़ा खेद है और इसीसे मेरा मन संतप्त रहता है। मैं अपनी और आपकी भी पूर्वजन्मकी बातोंको याद करता हूँ; इसीलिये आपकी ओर देखकर हँस देता हूँ
viparyayeṇa me manyus tena santapyate manaḥ | jātiṁ smarāmy ahaṁ tubhyam atas tvāṁ prahasāmi vai ||
Wahai yang terbaik antara yang dua kali lahir, wahai Brahmin—atas sebab itulah aku tersenyum ketika memandangmu. Aku tidak tertawa untuk tidak menghormati, kerana engkau guruku. Pembalikan ini memenuhi diriku dengan dukacita, dan hatiku terbakar oleh kesesakan. Mengingati ikatan antara kita merentas kelahiran-kelahiran lampau, aku tidak dapat menahan senyum ketika memandangmu—bukan kerana hina, tetapi kerana sedih dan ingatan.
