The verse highlights gṛhastha-dharma: food should be shared in an ordered, ethical way—first as a sacred offering, then to Brāhmaṇas/guests and dependents, and only then should one eat oneself. It models restraint and prioritizing others’ welfare.
Draupadī receives the alms-food brought back by the men, performs the customary offering (bali), gives portions to Brāhmaṇas, serves an elderly woman and the leading men, and finally eats what remains.
