Vāraṇāvata-prasaṃsā and the Pāṇḍavas’ Departure (वरणावत-प्रशंसा तथा पाण्डव-प्रयाणम्)
युक्तरूप: स हि गुरुरित्येवमनुचिन्त्य च | अथैनमानीय तदा स्वयमेव सुसत्कृतम्
yuktarūpaḥ sa hi gurur ityevamanucintya ca | athainam ānīya tadā svayameva susatkṛtam |
Setelah merenung, “Dialah guru yang paling layak,” Bhīṣma pun sendiri membawa beliau masuk dan memuliakannya dengan penghormatan yang wajar. Di situ, Bhīṣma—yang terunggul antara para pahlawan bersenjata—dengan bijaksana bertanya kepada Droṇa sebab kedatangannya, lalu Droṇa menyatakan seluruh hal itu sebagaimana adanya.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage highlights discernment in choosing a qualified teacher and the ethical duty to honor learning and the learned. Bhīṣma’s conduct models respectful reception (satkāra) and prudent inquiry before entrusting royal heirs to a preceptor.
Bhīṣma concludes that Droṇa is the appropriate guru for the princes, personally brings him with honor, and asks the reason for his coming. Droṇa then begins to explain the circumstances that led him to arrive.
