Droṇa–Drupada Saṃvāda and Droṇa’s Reception at the Kuru Court (द्रोण-द्रुपद-संवादः; कुरुनगरप्रवेशः)

प्रसादार्थ मया ते5यं शिरस्यभ्युद्यतो55जलि: । मन्नियोगात्‌ सुकेशान्ते द्विजातेस्तपसाधिकात्‌

vaiśampāyana uvāca | prasādārthaṃ mayā te 'yaṃ śirasy abhyudyato 'ñjaliḥ | manniyogāt sukeśānte dvijātis tapasa adhikāt |

Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Untuk meraih kerelaanmu, aku mengangkat sembah permohonan ini dekat kepalaku. Wahai kekasih bersanggul indah, menurut titahku dekati seorang Brahmin ‘dua kali lahir’ (dvija) yang unggul dalam tapa, dan lahirkanlah seorang putera berbudi. Inilah yang diisytiharkan para cendekia sebagai aturan dharma purba: apa jua yang diminta suami daripada isterinya—sama ada tampak selaras dengan dharma atau bertentangan—hendaklah dilaksanakan; dan lebih-lebih lagi apabila suami mendambakan putera namun tidak berdaya memperanakkan zuriat sendiri. Wahai wanita yang anggota tubuhnya tiada cela, bertuah, kerana aku rindu melihat wajah seorang putera, aku merayu demi ketenteraman hatimu: sempurnakanlah niyoga ini supaya melalui usahamu aku mencapai nasib mereka yang berputera.”
