Shloka 174

उमामहेश्वरव्रतं—पञ्चाक्षरमन्त्रस्य माहात्म्यं, न्यासः, जपविधिः, सदाचारः, विनियोगः

कुर्वन्त्यनुग्रहं तुष्टा गुरौ तुष्टे न संशयः कर्मणा मनसा वाचा गुरोः क्रोधं न कारयेत्

kurvantyanugrahaṃ tuṣṭā gurau tuṣṭe na saṃśayaḥ karmaṇā manasā vācā guroḥ krodhaṃ na kārayet

Apabila Guru berkenan, para guru dan insan mulia yang berpuas hati akan mengurniakan anugerah—tiada keraguan. Maka, dengan perbuatan, dengan fikiran, dan dengan kata-kata, jangan sekali-kali membangkitkan kemurkaan Guru.

It establishes guru-sevā as the prerequisite for Śiva’s anugraha: without pleasing the Guru, the fruit of liṅga-pūjā and mantra practice is obstructed by lack of right discipline.

Śiva as Pati is approached through anugraha (grace); the Guru functions as the channel of that grace, guiding the paśu (soul) out of pāśa (bondage) by right conduct in thought, word, and deed.
