FAQs

This verse explicitly elevates vṛṣotsarga above other recognized dharmic acts—charity, pilgrimage, austerity, sacrifice, renunciation, and ancestral rites—marking it as especially meritorious, particularly in the context of Pitṛ-related duty.

By listing “paitṛka mahaḥ” (ancestral rites) and then highlighting vṛṣotsarga as foremost, the verse frames certain donations and rites as key supports in the post-death ritual ecosystem aimed at benefiting the departed and the Pitṛs.

Treat charity and ancestral duties as serious dharma; where traditional rites like vṛṣotsarga are not feasible, one can still apply the principle by performing sincere dāna and Pitṛ-related observances with ethical living and reverence.
