Mukti-tattva Upadeśa: Knowledge as the Direct Cause of Liberation
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Scriptures are effectively endless; indiscriminate listening/collecting does not culminate in completion—one must prioritize what leads to realization.
Vedantic Theme: Śāstra is vast; liberation depends on grasping the essential purport (tātparya) and assimilating it, not on exhaustive coverage.
Application: Adopt a curriculum of essentials (sāra-grāhaṇa): choose a guiding text/teacher, practice reflection, avoid information-hoarding spirituality.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

This verse stresses discernment: although one may want to hear “everything,” the scriptures are inexhaustible, so one should focus on the core knowable truths that lead to dharma and liberation.
In the Preta Kanda’s instructional setting, it functions as a caution against endless curiosity; the listener should grasp the decisive teachings needed for right conduct and preparedness for death-related realities.
Study consistently but selectively: choose a reliable text/teacher, focus on actionable dharma and inner transformation, and avoid getting lost in limitless information without practice.
