Mukti-tattva Upadeśa: Knowledge as the Direct Cause of Liberation
Narrator (traditional Purāṇic narrator within the Vishnu–Garuda dialogue framework)
Concept: Śravaṇa of Bhagavān’s words brings ānanda; faithful narration preserves the sanctity of revelation.
Vedantic Theme: Śabda-pramāṇa and īśvara-vākya as a means to inner clarity and peace; devotion ripens into śānti.
Application: Cultivate regular listening/reading of Viṣṇu-kathā with fidelity to source; share teachings without distortion.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (Pretakalpa/Upadeśa sections): repeated praise of śravaṇa-kīrtana as merit-producing; Garuda Purana: guru-śiṣya paramparā framing verses around Suparṇa Purāṇa narration
This verse emphasizes that the narrator reports the teaching exactly “as heard” from the Lord, underscoring authenticity and lineage-based transmission of dharma-knowledge.
It functions as a framing statement: the instructions (often about preta-state, rites, and dharma) are presented as divine speech from Rāmāpati, lending authority to the after-death guidance.
Study and practice ritual/ethical guidance from reliable sources and teachers, preserving accuracy rather than altering teachings for convenience.
