Concept: Buddhi as charioteer restrains senses; when mind is pulled by karma-impulses, apply discernment to hold it toward the auspicious (shubha).

Vedantic Theme: Viveka and indriya-nigraha as sadhana-chatushtaya supports; karma-driven vrittis are redirected toward sattvika aims.

Application: Practice sense-restraint (digital/food/speech moderation); pause before action, apply viveka (‘is this shubha?’), and re-anchor attention on a chosen sattvika goal or mantra.

Primary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

This verse frames sense-control as the foundation for auspicious conduct: the intellect must guide the mind to restrain the senses, preventing actions that create binding or harmful karma.

By stating that the mind is dragged by actions, it implies karmic momentum shapes experience; directing the mind toward the auspicious helps purify conduct and reduces causes that lead to distressing post-death consequences described in the Preta Kanda.

Treat discernment as the ‘driver’: limit sensory triggers, pause before acting, and deliberately aim the mind toward wholesome duties—truthfulness, compassion, restraint, and ritual/ethical discipline.
