Explanation of Purification (Śuddhi-vyākhyāna)
उद्धृत्य मिश्रितान् पश्चात् तीर्थे ऽभ्मः सु विनिः क्षिपेत् / क्षिपन् संकीर्तयेन्नाम गोत्रं च मृतकस्य च
uddhṛtya miśritān paścāt tīrthe 'bhmaḥ su viniḥ kṣipet / kṣipan saṃkīrtayennāma gotraṃ ca mṛtakasya ca
Sesudah mengumpulkan sisa yang telah bercampur, hendaklah seseorang dengan cermat mencampakkan abu ke dalam tīrtha, iaitu tempat suci. Ketika mencampakkan, hendaklah disebut dengan lantang nama serta gotra (salasilah) si mendiang.

This verse prescribes that ashes should be properly cast into a sacred tīrtha, treating the act as a dharmic rite that completes the respectful handling of the deceased’s remains.
Reciting nāma and gotra identifies the departed during the rite, making the offering/act explicitly directed to that individual as part of the prescribed funerary procedure.
When performing ash immersion, do it mindfully and respectfully—at a sacred water site if possible—clearly stating the departed’s name and lineage, and ensuring the process is carried out cleanly and with reverence.
