This verse prescribes satila (sesame-mixed) offerings as a key śrāddha/antyeṣṭi element, performed with remembrance of Viṣṇu and Yama, indicating purification and proper guidance of the departed through dharmic rites.
Facing south aligns the rite with the traditional direction associated with Yama and the departed, while silence (tūṣṇīm) emphasizes disciplined, focused performance—offering each portion sequentially as part of correct funerary procedure.
Perform remembrance of the divine with steadiness and respect during ancestral rites: follow prescribed order, avoid distraction, and treat ritual actions as mindful duties (dharma) rather than mere formalities.
