“Inilah tanda-tandanya, wahai Raja burung (Garuda). Maka hendaklah dipersembahkan dan dilaksanakan prāyaścitta (penebusan) yang ditetapkan. Setelah mandi—sama ada di rumah atau di tīrtha—hendaklah dilakukan tarpaṇa, iaitu libasi air, di pohon bertuah (śrī-vṛkṣa).”
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)

Vedantic Theme: Dharma as a harmonizing force: ritual purity and offerings mitigate subtle disturbances and re-align the individual with ṛta/dharma.
Application: Perform a structured response: cleanse (snāna), then offer tarpaṇa with proper intention/mantras at an auspicious spot (home shrine/tīrtha/tree), ideally under guidance.

Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Type: home or sacred ford; sacred tree-site

This verse frames prāyaścitta as the proper response after recognizing certain ‘signs’ (cihnāni), emphasizing ritual purification and corrective action to restore dharmic balance.
In the Preta Kanda context, purification (snāna) and tarpaṇa are portrayed as supportive rites that reduce obstacles and aid the departed through Pitṛ-related obligations, which the text links to post-death welfare.
When facing ritual impurity or anxiety about omens, prioritize ethical correction, a purifying bath, and (where appropriate in one’s tradition) simple water-offerings with remembrance of ancestors, guided by a qualified priest or family custom.
