Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vainateya)
Concept: Bhūri-dāna (abundant gifting) within yajña yields akṣaya-phala; ritual context sanctifies and stabilizes karmic results.
Vedantic Theme: Yajña as karma-yoga when aligned with śāstra; offering (tyāga) transforms possession into merit.
Application: When performing rites, complete them with appropriate dāna; prioritize sincerity and capacity, and ensure gifts reach worthy recipients.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Type: ritual altar/vedi
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: akṣaya-phala claims for dāna connected to rites and śrāddha; emphasis on completing rituals with gifts; Garuda Purana: vedi/altar sanctity and the role of dakṣiṇā in ritual completion
This verse states that generous giving performed within the yajña/rite yields akṣaya (imperishable) merit, making dāna a key support for lasting spiritual benefit associated with śrāddha-type observances.
In the Preta Kanda context, rites for the departed emphasize accumulating enduring merit; the verse highlights that gifts offered in the ritual setting become inexhaustible merit, which tradition links with aiding the preta’s welfare through dharmic acts by the living.
When performing śrāddha or memorial rites, prioritize sincere, ethical generosity—food, essentials, or support to worthy recipients—understanding it as a dharmic act believed to produce lasting merit rather than a one-time benefit.
