Jīva itu sendiri tidak berbuat-apa, namun bergerak dalam tubuh hanya oleh daya vāyu (angin hayat). Apa jua tubuh yang diperolehnya, pada waktunya ia juga melepaskannya dengan sendirinya.

Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Afterlife Stage: Yamaloka Journey

Concept: The jīva (as subtle principle) is not a gross ‘doer’ in bodily motion; vāyu/prāṇa drives movement; embodiment is repeatedly assumed and relinquished.

Vedantic Theme: Prāṇa as functional power within the subtle body; saṃsāra as repeated upādhi-change; witness-self vs. instrumentality (nuanced, Purāṇic-Advaitic resonance).

Application: Reduce identification with bodily activity; cultivate discernment and steadiness, remembering that bodies are temporary instruments.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Related Themes: Garuda Purana Pretakalpa 2.10.77 (vāyavīya body arises); Garuda Purana Pretakalpa 2.10.79 (jīva departs with its own; guṇas)

FAQs

This verse states that the jīva’s movement in a body is driven by vāyu; life-functions and motion depend on prāṇa, not on the inert body itself.

It implies transmigration: the jīva takes up a body and later abandons it; embodiment is temporary and governed by the forces that sustain life (vāyu/prāṇa).

Cultivate detachment and dharmic living: since bodies are repeatedly taken and left, prioritize ethical conduct, remembrance of the Divine, and proper rites for the departed.
