Garuda (Vinata-putra) addressing Lord Vishnu

Concept: Viṣṇu-kathā (hearing and recounting) purifies and produces sarva-saṅga-vivarjana (freedom from all attachments) in sādhus.

Vedantic Theme: Śravaṇa–kīrtana as bhakti-sādhana leading to vairāgya; transformation of citta through nāma/kathā; detachment as a sign of inner realization.

Application: Adopt a daily practice of listening to sacred discourse (śravaṇa) and sharing it (kīrtana/pravacana); curate inputs (media/diet/company) to support non-attachment and clarity.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Related Themes: Garuda Purana: emphasis on Viṣṇu-nāma/kathā as purifier and liberating support (general thematic parallel)

FAQs

This verse presents śravaṇa (hearing) and kathana (recounting) of narratives centered on Viṣṇu as a direct means to loosen and ultimately abandon worldly saṅga (attachment).

By emphasizing freedom from sarva-saṅga, the verse points to inner purification: reduced attachment supports a calmer, more dharmic life and prepares the jīva for a higher post-death trajectory and liberation-oriented practice.

Regularly listen to and share Viṣṇu-centered teachings, and consciously reduce binding attachments (obsessive possessions, harmful company, compulsive desires) to cultivate steadiness, ethics, and spiritual clarity.
