Multi-form Manifestations, Indra–Kāma Incarnations, Pravāha, and the Twofold Buddhi
Sense-Discipline and Exclusive Refuge in Viṣṇu
Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Name ‘Pravaha’ arises from sustaining/bearing; abandoning Vishnu’s form to worship kudevas of demonic nature is a grave error.
Vedantic Theme: Ekatva-niṣṭhā in Bhagavan (exclusive refuge) and viveka (discernment) between sattvika devotion and tamasika misdirection.
Application: Maintain discernment in worship; prioritize Vishnu/Narayana-centered devotion; evaluate practices by scriptural alignment, ethical fruits, and sattva.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.28.61 (Pravaha naming); Garuda Purana 3.28.65 (futility of such worship in the speaker’s frame)
This verse frames abandoning Viṣṇu in favor of demonic-natured ‘kudevas’ as a serious spiritual misdirection, emphasizing orthodox devotion aligned with dharma.
By stressing correct object of worship (Viṣṇu) versus deceptive substitutes, the verse implies that one’s devotional orientation shapes one’s spiritual trajectory and avoids delusion that obstructs liberation-oriented practice.
Choose a clear, dharmic devotional focus (especially Viṣṇu in this context), avoid exploitative or fear-based cults, and align worship with scripture, ethics, and disciplined practice.
