Veṅkaṭācala Māhātmya: Bhakti-Lakṣaṇa, Nārasiṁha-tīrtha, and the Secret Darśana-Vidhi of Śrīnivāsa

Narrator (Garuda Purana discourse, traditionally in the Vishnu–Garuda dialogue frame)

Concept: Divine grace (vara) and divine withdrawal (antardhāna) coexist; sacred presence can remain subtle and enduring at tīrthas.

Vedantic Theme: Saguṇa presence as a continuing upāsanā-support; the divine is not limited by visibility—presence may be avyakta yet efficacious.

Application: Treat sacred places with reverence; practice remembrance (smaraṇa) even when no ‘sign’ is visible; trust continuity of grace.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: kunda/tīrtha basin

FAQs

The verse presents the kuṇḍa as a sacred locus where Viṣṇu ‘becomes hidden’ after granting a boon, implying a tīrtha-like sanctity and an ongoing, living presence of Nṛsiṃha associated with the waters.

It portrays Prahlāda still situated among Daitya youths/princes, highlighting that devotion (bhakti) can exist even within an asuric lineage and social setting, without erasing one’s worldly associations.

Maintain devotion and ethical steadiness in any environment: like Prahlāda among Daityas, one can uphold dharma and remembrance of the Divine even when surrounded by contrary influences.
