Lord Vishnu
Concept: Guhya-tattva is revealed fully to the adhikārī (worthy disciple); true teaching is not withheld where fitness and trust are present.
Vedantic Theme: Adhikāra-bheda and guru-upadeśa as the gateway to tattva-jñāna; truth is one, secrecy is pedagogical not absolute.
Application: Cultivate śraddhā, humility, and steadiness; approach a competent teacher, ask directly, and maintain integrity so instruction can be complete and unreserved.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (dialogue frame): recurring guru–śiṣya assurances of ‘śṛṇu’ and ‘vakṣyāmi’ before doctrinal sections; Garuda Purana: emphasis on adhikāra for receiving guhya teachings in dharma/pretakalpa contexts
This verse frames the upcoming instruction as profound (gopya) yet fully shareable with a qualified disciple, signaling that the teaching is meant for sincere seekers and not withheld out of secrecy.
It functions as a preface: Vishnu assures Garuda that the forthcoming truths about subtle realities (often concerning the preta’s condition and dharma) will be stated plainly, establishing trust before describing the post-death journey.
Seek instruction with sincerity and preparedness, and transmit sacred knowledge responsibly—share clearly with committed learners rather than treating dharmic guidance as mere esoteric secrecy.
