Śrāddha Vidhi: Kāla (Timing), Pātra (Recipient), and Karma (Procedure) for Pitṛ-tarpaṇa and Piṇḍa
Lord Viṣṇu (in instruction to Garuḍa)
Beneficiary: Pitr
Timing: visarjana (dismissal) at the end of śrāddha/tarpaṇa
Concept: Ritual speech (mantra/udgāra) and correct sequence (Pitṛ-first) ensure proper transmission of offerings.
Vedantic Theme: Śabda as a carrier of saṃskāra; niyama (order) disciplines the mind toward sattva.
Application: In any sacred or solemn duty, follow correct order and conclude with clear, respectful words; keep a dedicated ‘vessel’/container for offerings or charity to maintain consistency.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: śrāddha altar/offerings area with arghya-pātra
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.99 (visarjana procedure; arghya-pātra usage)
This verse stresses properly concluding the rite by respectfully dismissing the Pitṛs first, ensuring the ancestral invocation and offerings are ritually completed rather than left unfinished.
It indicates that the dismissal is done with the utterance “vāje vāje” and that the release/conclusion is performed into the same arghya vessel where the libations were previously poured.
When performing śrāddha/tarpaṇa, follow a clear closing step—offer with devotion, maintain correct order (ancestors first), and complete the ritual formally rather than stopping abruptly.
