Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: The Supreme is Satya, beyond customary observances (ācāra as limiting upādhi), partless (niṣkala), beyond waking/dream/deep sleep and beyond names—indicating non-dual reality transcending all predicates.

Vedantic Theme: Turiya/trans-state consciousness; nāma-rūpa negation; niṣkala-brahman; satyam-jñānam-anantam orientation.

Application: Practice neti-neti: disidentify from the three states and from labels; use silence/meditation to rest as awareness itself; keep rituals as supportive but not as ultimate definition of the Real.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Related Themes: Garuda Purana: jñāna sections that negate nāma-rūpa and emphasize the state beyond the three avasthās (thematic)

FAQs

This verse points to the highest reality as beyond ritual forms and labels, indicating that liberation culminates in realizing the Supreme as Truth itself—partless, beyond all conceptual designation.

By describing the Supreme as beyond waking, dream, and deep sleep, it implies that the soul’s final goal is not merely post-death travel or ritual merit, but transcendence of all conditioned states into the timeless reality.

Perform duties and rites with humility, but cultivate inner inquiry and devotion aimed at realizing the Truth beyond ego, names, and mental states—so practice becomes a means to liberation rather than mere external compliance.
