Lord Vishnu (in dialogue with Garuda/Vinata-putra, advising on dharma as framed by ancestral injunctions)
Concept: Kṛtādhikāra (fulfilled obligation) and siddhi through following Pitṛ-instruction; acceptance of wife as dharmic step into gṛhastha.
Vedantic Theme: Svadharma-niṣṭhā as purifier of antaḥkaraṇa; karma performed in order supports later jñāna/bhakti maturation.
Application: Complete prescribed duties and, when appropriate, enter household life responsibly—marriage as a dharmic commitment supporting yajña, hospitality, and lineage rites.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Related Themes: Garuda Purana Pretakalpa/Śrāddha sections emphasizing Pitṛ-tarpaṇa and gṛhastha duties (general)
This verse frames marriage/householder life as a dharmic step taken after fulfilling prescribed obligations, and specifically as aligned with the injunctions of the Pitṛs (ancestral tradition).
It links siddhi (accomplishment) to first completing one’s rightful duties (kṛtādhikāra), indicating that orderly adherence to dharma is presented as the basis for success in life’s aims.
Complete essential responsibilities and rites with integrity, and make major life commitments (like marriage) in a way that respects ethical duty, family lineage values, and long-term responsibility.
