Purusha-Strī-Lakṣaṇa (Samudrika-śāstra): Marks of Kingship, Wealth, Longevity, and Conduct
Lord Vishnu (in dialogue instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Auspicious bodily lines/marks correspond to specific karmic fruits: long life, wealth-lordship, cattle abundance, and rulership.
Vedantic Theme: Prārabdha distributing life-span (āyus) and resources; worldly sovereignty as impermanent phala.
Application: If endowed with resources/status, uphold protection (rakṣaṇa) of dependents and practice dāna; treat longevity as opportunity for dharma and devotion.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.65 (lakṣaṇa for āyus, dhana, go, rājya)
This verse treats specific marks and their placement as indicators of karmic merit, predicting outcomes like longevity, wealth, cattle-prosperity, and rulership.
Indirectly: by linking visible signs to karmic fruits, it implies that past actions shape present-life conditions (āyus, dhana, and status), which in turn influence one’s dharmic choices and future destiny.
Use it as a reminder that prosperity and status should be used responsibly—supporting dharma, charity, and ethical living—rather than as grounds for pride or harm.
