Māheśvara-pūjā-vidhi: Nyāsa, Maṇḍala-āvāhana, Kalā-salutations, and Upacāra Worship
Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Mantra-āhvāna: invoking presiding deities of the seat to stabilize and sanctify the rite.
Vedantic Theme: Ritual order mirrors inner order: establishing a ‘seat’ for awareness; sanctifying the base supports steadiness (sthiti) of mind.
Application: Begin any practice by ‘setting the seat’: create a stable, clean, intentional base (physical and mental) before deeper invocation or meditation.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: ritual-seat (āsana)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: following list of āvaraṇa/auxiliary devatā mantras beginning with Gaṇapati etc. (next verse)
This verse frames the ritual seat as a sanctified locus with presiding powers; invoking them formally establishes sacred space and readiness for Rudra/Śiva-oriented worship.
It is not a preta/afterlife verse; it belongs to ritual instruction, emphasizing correct preparatory rites (ācāra) rather than the post-death journey.
Before any pūjā or japa, treat the worship space and seat as sacred—begin with a brief invocation/sankalpa so the practice is orderly, attentive, and tradition-aligned.
