Hayagrīva Pūjāvidhi: Root Mantra, Nyāsa, Maṇḍala-Devatā Worship, and Stotra
Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda)
Concept: Ritual correctness through spatial hierarchy: deities/energies are invoked by direction, corners are fortified, and the center is stabilized by the presiding gaze.
Vedantic Theme: Antaryamin as the organizing center; order (rita/dharma) reflected in ritual space.
Application: When performing protective worship, assign offerings by direction, fortify corners with astras, and conclude by centering attention on the presiding ‘eye’/awareness.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Type: ritual-space/yantra-mandala layout
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.34 (directional worship sequence; astra-puja; central deity placement)
This verse indicates that worship is arranged by directions (east onward) and corners, showing a protective and orderly ritual layout where specific powers are invoked in specific locations.
Indirectly, it supports the Garuda Purana’s broader aim of safeguarding transitions (including death-rites) through correct ritual protection—establishing a consecrated space that removes obstacles and fear.
When performing any pūjā or śrāddha-related rite, keep a clear directional arrangement, include protective invocations (astra), and maintain a focused center—emphasizing discipline, reverence, and spiritual protection.
