Acyuta/Vāsudeva Stotra: Avatāra-Salutations, Ritual Totality, Forgiveness Prayer, and Phalaśruti
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Sarva-tyaga leading to sharanagati: setting aside all other pursuits and taking Vishnu as the highest refuge fulfills all purusharthas.
Vedantic Theme: Paramapurushartha as Bhagavat-prapatti; integration of purusharthas with moksha as culmination; Vishnu as parama-sharana.
Application: Prioritize daily remembrance and surrender (prapatti), simplify competing aims, and orient artha/kama under dharma with moksha as the final aim through Vishnu-bhakti.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (general): Vishnu-bhakti as deliverance; praise of Vishnu-nama and sharanagati in moksha-oriented passages
This verse presents Viṣṇu as the highest shelter: even when one seeks the four aims of life (dharma, artha, kāma, mokṣa), the culmination is taking refuge in Viṣṇu, which supersedes other pursuits.
It frames the soul’s true destination as Viṣṇu: beyond worldly aims and even the aspiration for liberation as an abstract goal, the verse emphasizes surrender to the divine as the decisive movement toward the highest end.
Align everyday goals—earning, pleasure, and duty—with devotion and ethical restraint, and regularly prioritize spiritual practice (śravaṇa, japa, worship) as the central refuge rather than treating spirituality as secondary.
