Śivapūjā-vidhi: Purifications, Sūrya–Graha Mantras, Nyāsa, and Bhūtaśuddhi leading to Śivoham-bhāva
Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Upāsanā of Sūrya through mantra as a doorway to inner purification and divine presence; unity of deities (Śiva-Sūrya) in worship.
Vedantic Theme: Ekatva-bhāva in īśvara-upāsanā; the visible Sun as a pratīka for the all-pervading Brahman/Īśvara.
Application: Perform sunrise salutation/standing reverence, then japa of the given solar mantras with attention to breath and pronunciation; cultivate gratitude and steadiness at day’s start.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: ritual space (open sky/riverbank/temple courtyard)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.23.10 (arkāsana, hrāṃ/hrīṃ/hrūṃ solar worship continuation); Garuda Purana 1.23.8-1.23.9 (sequence of remembering/worship of presiding powers and bīja-devīs)
This verse frames Surya worship as a daily dharmic observance: after performing Sūryopasthāna, one should worship the Sun through specific solar mantras, emphasizing disciplined practice (ācāra) and mantra-based reverence.
Indirectly, it supports the Garuda Purana’s broader teaching that right conduct and prescribed rituals purify the practitioner and build spiritual merit; such merits are repeatedly presented in the text as helpful supports for one’s post-death journey and well-being.
Adopt a consistent morning practice: face the Sun respectfully, perform a brief Surya salutation/attendance, and chant a Surya mantra with clarity and devotion—treating it as a daily discipline of gratitude, steadiness, and dharma.
