Bhakti-māhātmya: The Marks of the Vaiṣṇava and the Liberating Power of Exclusive Devotion
Concept: Viṣṇu is supremely pleased by devotion; bhakti is the distinctive and sufficient means to attain all puruṣārthas.
Vedantic Theme: Parā-bhakti as direct means (sādhana) culminating in grace (prasāda) and fulfillment; exclusivity of devotion over merely external means.
Application: Prioritize daily bhakti practices—nāma-smaraṇa, kīrtana, pūjā, and śravaṇa—measuring progress by inner devotion rather than only ritual output.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (Uttara/Preta-khaṇḍa) recurring emphasis on nāma-smaraṇa and śravaṇa as deliverance; Garuda Purana sections praising Viṣṇu-nāma as the boat across saṃsāra
This verse states that devotion to Viṣṇu is a complete means—through it “everything is attained,” making it central to the Purana’s spiritual instruction.
Yes. It emphasizes that Hari is truly pleased by bhakti; other means do not satisfy Him in the same essential way, implying devotion is the heart of practice.
Cultivate daily devotion—remembering Viṣṇu, sincere prayer, chanting His names, and offering actions with faith—so spiritual effort becomes inwardly aligned rather than merely external.
